I am an oil and acrylic painter, and part-time art teacher living between my hometown, Durban, and my home in Prince Albert in the Karoo which I adore. Since returning to painting after years of full-time teaching, my art has been displayed and has sold at several venues and exhibitions in Kwazulu-Natal (KZNSA Gallery, Artspace, Loading Bay Gallery, The Breathing Space, Fat Tuesday Gallery, Studio Artplus). I have also exhibited at a few galleries in the Cape (ABSA KKNK Artkaroo, Oudtshoorn; Cape Palette, George; Prince Albert Gallery, Prince Albert, Imibala Gallery, Graaf-Reinet), restaurants and décor shops.
Since my first participation as the guest artist at Prince Albert Open Studios in June 2018, I have focussed on South African landscapes and seascapes, experienced on my scenic-route travels between Durban and Prince Albert, and on my runs in these places I call home (I am a long-distance runner).
I use these images from personal experience and transform them through a mark-making technique to create a detailed, dynamic surface. The vast starkness of the Karoo, the roads we travel to get there, and my love of the sea provides me with an endless spectacle. It inspires me to create paintings that show our natural world’s sometimes overlooked beauty, capture its imperious silence and allows the viewer to become lost, briefly, in something bigger than themselves.
I look forward to opening my home and working space for a few days again at Prince Albert Open Studios Jan 2025. In the past I have been rewarded for this effort by the opportunity to meet interesting art appreciators, many sales, and inclusion in several art journals and magazines.
