Karin Henriques

aka KH.allthingscreative, draws inspiration from a lifetime of experiences, framing what she sees to tell visual stories.

Her photography, leans less towards art photography and more towards photojournalism. She believes everyone lives a life of significance and has a story to tell—whether big or small. The only difference between famous people and the “rest of us” is that “the rest of us” don’t always get to ”see” the moments that add to people’s tapestry of life. But in reality, we all have a story to tell.

In this exhibition, Karin presents photographs of people and places — moments that have influenced her as a person, a creative, and a business-of-one.

“When you’re on a commission, your job is to capture images that not only satisfy the commissioner but also delight the audience those images are intended for. This forces you to look more carefully, to frame moments that will leave an impression. I’ve carried that same philosophy into my life, capturing moments that remind me of the people and privileges that cross my path and shape my journey.”

Karin and her husband, Paul, made a life-changing move from Chelsea Village in Wynberg, Cape Town, to the Great Karoo on January 1, 2023. They fell in love with a piece of land on the outskirts of town, which she calls “Prince Albert’s last outpost.” From city-dwellers and business travellers, they now embrace life in the vast Karoo veld, where on still days, you can “touch the silence.”

Karin continues to work in the corporate world and runs her business remotely, while also “side-hustling” in town as a partner in a local restaurant. Through it all, she remains dedicated to capturing moments of magic, continuing to tell the stories of life.

Karin will be joined by friend, artist and actress Chanelle de Jager, who found passion in skull carving. Since relocating to the Kalahari Desert in 2019, Chanelle has embarked on a magical love affair with bone, creating stunning pieces that blend elegance with a touch of dramatic flair.

Her intricate designs, inspired by romantic Damask patterns, evoke mystery and invite admiration. Each artwork celebrates the life of the animals from which the skulls are sourced, all of which are found naturally or humanely hunted and donated by local farmers. Chanelle meticulously cleans and preserves these skulls, ensuring their longevity.

Experience Chanelle’s unique artistry, which not only honours the beauty of these animals but also embodies a celebration of rebirth and transformation. She will also be hosting a 5 day carving course the week after Open Studios. More information on this course available on social media.
