Mary Anne Botha

Mary Anne studied art at Wits (University of the Witwatersrand), and now runs Prince Albert Gallery, along with its owner Brent Phillips-White. Since university, art has been a huge and important part of her life. She takes art, artists and customers all very seriously and is committed to helping the artists in the area and the community in general on many levels.

She leans towards abstract art, in mixed media, with a fair amount of photography and collage in the mix. Working with no line of demarcation between the real and the imaginary, she recycles images, reconfiguring the appearance of things. In her recent work she questions the romantic representation of land within the South African landscape painting tradition.
