Sonja Fourie

I am a self-taught artist who started painting in 2009 and developed my own style over the years. I used to live in Hermanus, but moved to Prince Albert in February 2019, and now have my own studio space. Before I joined Prince Albert Open Studios I was part of the Volmoed art group under the caring guidance of 2 artists, Alyson Guy and Audrey Hickman. I participated in the Kalfiefees, Fynarts and Volmoed group exhibitions.

My biggest inspiration comes from nature and then the artworks of the artmaster Claude Monet. “I perhaps owe it to Mother Earth that I became a painter.”Acrylics are my favourite medium to work in because it feels like I can play with it in diffrent ways. In the entrance of my Karoo shop Moeder Aarde I have a tiny studio space called my “skilder hoekie” this is where most of my artworks happens. This is my happy space and to meet friendly people everyday keeps me in a positive mood to create and to be productive. Like all beautiful places and people have lovely stories to tell, I also see my artworks as a story to share or a memory to be captured for ever and make someone happy somewhere in the world.

“Life is art, live yours with passion and in lots of colour”
