Toast Coetzer

Writer and photographer Toast Coetzer was born in the Karoo town of Cradock and grew up on a farm in the district. He has spent most of the past 20 years working for travel magazines Weg and Go, with his assignments taking him to 17 African countries plus places much further afield, like Tristan da Cunha, Marion Island, the Falklands and South Georgia Island. His exhibition of black and white prints at Open Studios consist of quiet landscapes, mostly of arid locations, and portraits of trees, stone walls and other survivors of near-forgotten places.
