Jennifer has been wrestling with paints, brushes, and canvases for the past 15 years – full time since moving to the Karoo and leaving behind a left-brain life. Largely self-taught, she works in oils and, like any good magpie, she is attracted one day to still life painting, the next a landscape or portrait, and sometimes a combination. She is captivated by the meditative pursuit of close observation and the joy of translating light, colour, shapes, and form into something recognisable in two dimensions. She finds living in the quiet and expansiveness of the Karoo nearly as inspiring as gazing at the abstraction in a Rembrandt or a the colour of Wayne Thiebaud’s cakes.
